The Kansas City Healthcare Communicators Society (KCHCS) is dedicated to assisting communicators who work in or have an interest in the health care field continue their professional development by increasing their understanding of the industry and their role in it.
In today's highly competitive and fast-changing health care world, KCHCS provides members with a unique opportunity to collaborate with their peers throughout the Greater Kansas City area.
Benefits include educational programs that are offered to members through luncheon or breakfast meetings, as well as at an annual half-day seminar. While topics often focus on the communicator's role in a changing health care industry, programs also include more general marketing and communications topics. In addition, KCHCS offers unique networking opportunities through social activities.

PR + Social Media: Blurring Lines, Busting Silos and Building Bridges
Presented by Jake Jacobson, Director of Public Relations at Children’s Mercy Kansas City
What do a crayon shortage, an oddly placed suggestion box, a soccer-loving robot and lawnmower safety tips have in common? How do you grow media coverage and online engagement at a time when newsrooms, attention spans and the organic reach of social media are all shrinking? How can you use social media to reach your strategic goals – and have fun in the process? Jake Jacobson, Director of Public Relations at Children’s Mercy, will help you discover those answers and more.
In this highly caffeinated keynote, you’ll laugh a bit, maybe cry a little and learn:
As Director of Public Relations at Children's Mercy Kansas City, Jake Jacobson shares patients' inspiring stories and physicians' innovative care with an ever-growing audience. In more than 20 years of experience in brand-side social media, media relations and daily journalism, Jake continues to hone his PR skills through immersion, experimentation and learning from his friends ... and his mistakes. Jake has delivered presentations for national conferences at Mayo Clinic, Microsoft, NPR headquarters and DePaul University, telling audiences about the power of storytelling for a brand. When he's not refreshing Twitter, Jake enjoys running, biking, hiking, traveling, being a cheerleader for all things KC and hopping on a microphone to emcee nonprofit events or sing mediocre karaoke.
