News (Dec. 8, 2023) – CDC Reports Health Care-Associated Infections Are Declining
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's 2022 National and State Health Care-Associated Infections Progress Report, after two years of increasing rates, health care-associated infection rates in acute care hospitals are on the decline. This includes, according to CIDRAP, a 19 percent decrease in ventilator-associated events, a 16 percent decrease in hospital-onset methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia, a 12 percent decrease in catheter-associated urinary tract infections, a 9 percent decrease in central line-associated bloodstream infections, and a 3 percent decrease in hospital-onset Clostridioides difficile infections.
