(Aug. 4, 2023) – The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued its hospital inpatient prospective payment system and long-term care hospital PPS final rule for the fiscal year 2024. Highlights of the rule include:
- Net 3.1 percent increase in inpatient payment rates
- Continue the low wage index hospital policy and treat rural reclassified hospitals as geographically rural for the purposes of calculating the wage index
- Allow hospitals to count training time in Rural Emergency Hospitals for the purposes of Medicare graduate medical education payments
- Addition of new health equity adjustment and sepsis bundle measures
- Require reporting of up-to-date vaccination status for the Inpatient Quality Reporting health care personnel COVID-19 vaccination measure
