Applications Now Accepted for Awards to Fund Capital Projects to Increase Childcare Capacity

Daycare (Nov. 22, 2023) – The Kansas Children's Cabinet & Trust Fund is currently accepting applications for capital projects that increase childcare capacity. Applications, due Dec. 18, will be eligible for awards between $500,000 to $5 million with $26-$28 million available during this round.

Eligible projects must meet ALL of the following criteria to be considered for funding:

  • The project is designed to address a critical need resulting from, made apparent or exacerbated by the COVID-19 public health emergency.
  • The project is designed to increase the number of licensed childcare slots (defined as full-day, full-year care for children from birth to age five).
  • The project ensures immediate broadband access to community members and for a period of no less than five years.
  • Projects must have explicit design considerations to enable ALL the following activities for a period of no less than five years:
    • Licensed childcare slots to support quality care and education programming for children ages birth to age five that enable parents and caregivers to participate in employment opportunities.
    • Work activities to help community members engage in employment, search for employment and/or develop the requisite skills and knowledge to become employed.
    • Education activities to acquire knowledge and/or skills are undertaken as part of a person's participation in school, an academic program, an extracurricular program or a social-emotional development program.
    • Health monitoring services for an individual's physical and/or behavioral health.
