Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee Meets

Meeting (March 7, 2023) - Today, the Senate Public Health and Welfare committee met, chaired by Senator Beverly Gossage (R-Eudora). The committee held a hearing on House Bill 2125, which provides for charitable event permits and demonstration permits for body art services, authorizing cease and desist orders against unlicensed providers of body art services and requiring administrative appeals process.

The committee heard proponent testimony from the following:

  • Representative Pat Proctor (R-Leavenworth)
  • David Yocum, Chair of the Kansas Board of Cosmetology

The committee also had an informational presentation to hear more about the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas. Leah Gagnon, director of patient engagement, presented the programs offered. The committee asked about marketing for services, payment for services and funding. Ms. Gagnon also told the committee about the work that they do with Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg. Finally, the committee heard about the unique role that community health workers play and heard that funding for services will be a concern as grants currently funding CHCSEK from the state and federal level wind down.
