House Insurance Committee Recommends Bills Favorably for Passage

HealthInsurance (Feb. 7, 2023) – Yesterday, the House Insurance Committee, chaired by Rep. Bill Sutton (R-Gardner), held hearings on House Bill 2094 and House Bill 2093.

House Bill 2094 specifies certain requirements necessary to demonstrate fiscal soundness for health maintenance organizations and Medicare provider organizations applying for certificates of authority. Eric Turek, Kansas Insurance Department, appeared as a proponent.

House Bill 2093 discontinues payments to certain group-funded insurance pools, refunding existing balances thereof; abolishing such funds and establishing the group-funded pools refund fund. Eric Turek, Kansas Insurance Department, appeared as a proponent.

The committee also saw a bill introduced adding birthing centers access to the Health Care Stabilization Fund.
