House Health Committee Holds Hearing
Pregnant (March 7, 2023) - Today, the House Health and Human Services Committee met, chaired by Representative Brenda Landwehr (R-Wichita). They held a hearing on House Bill 2429, which establishes the alternatives to abortion program to provide resources and promote childbirth to women facing unplanned pregnancies.

Proponents included:

• Lucrecia Nold, Kansas Catholic Conference
• Kelly Werkowitch, Nativity House KC Inc.
• Heather Roberts, Catholic Charities of Northeast Kansas
• Tom Quigley, Embrace Wichita

The committee also heard an informational presentation from the Community Health Center of Southeast Kansas, presented by Leah Gagnon. She gave an overview, similar to what was provided in the Senate, and emphasized the important role of community health workers.

The committee also worked the following bills, recommending them favorably for passage:
Senate Bill 180, establishing the women’s bill of rights to provide a meaning of biological sex for purposes of statutory construction.
