House Commerce Committee Hears Apprenticeship Bill

Kansas Statehouse (Feb. 13, 2023) – Today, the House Commerce, Labor and Economic Development committee, chaired by Representative Sean Tarwater (R-Stilwell), held a hearing on House Bill 2292. The legislation enacts the Kansas Apprenticeship Tax Credit Act to encourage the development of apprenticeship programs in Kansas by providing income tax credits for participating businesses employing apprentices. The committee heard from Jaron Caffrey, Kansas Hospital Association, on the need to expand the legislation to include funds for the health care industry to be able to fully participate in the Kansas Apprenticeship Program, as well as Lana Gordon, Hamilton-Ryker, to discuss how apprenticeship can be a solution for the health care sector.

The committee also held a hearing on House Bill 2373, establishing by statute when fireworks may be sold by seasonal retailers and expanding the time period for such sales.
