House Health Re-Works Biological Definitions Bill

Biological (March 16, 2023) – Today, the House Health and Human Services Committee re-worked Senate Bill 180. The legislation establishes a biological definition of sex for the purpose of statutory construction. The amendment proposed by Chair Brenda Landwehr (R-Wichita) adds language for an individual born with a medically verifiable diagnosis of "disorder/differences in sex development," shall be provided legal protections and accommodations afforded under the Americans with Disabilities Act and applicable Kansas statutes. The amendment also strikes the Whereas clauses in the bill. The committee recommended the legislation as amended, and the bill now goes to the full House of Representatives.

The committee will meet again next week.
