House Federal and State Affairs Hears the Crown Act Legislation and Recommends Tobacco 21 Legislation

Tobacco Products (Feb. 16, 2023) – Today, the House Federal and State Affairs committee, chaired by Representative Will Carpenter (R-El Dorado), held a hearing on House Bill 2044. The legislation amends the definition of "race" in the Kansas Act against Discrimination to include traits historically associated with race, including hair texture and protective hairstyles.

The committee also worked House Bill 2269. The legislation amends the Kansas Cigarette and Tobacco Products Act to raise the minimum age to 21 years old for the sale, purchase or possession of cigarettes, electronic cigarettes or tobacco products, passed on a vote of 19-3. The legislation now goes to the full House.
