Senator Marshall Co-Sponsors Bill Opposing Staffing Ratios

Sen Roger Marshall MD (Dec. 8, 2023) – This week, the Protecting Rural Seniors' Access to Care Act was introduced. The legislation would prohibit the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary from finalizing a proposed nursing home staffing rule that would hurt facilities across Kansas and could force many to close.

Senator Marshall co-sponsored the bill with Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE.), James Lankford (R-OK), Jon Tester (D-MT), Kyrsten Sinema (I-AZ.), Joe Manchin (D-WV), Roger Wicker (R-MS), Susan Collins (R-ME) and Angus King (I-ME). Click here to view Sen. Marshall's press release.

The legislation also would establish an advisory panel on nursing home staffing that includes voices from both urban and rural communities. The panel would submit a report to Congress analyzing workforce shortages and making practical recommendations to strengthen the workforce.
