President's Perspective – KHA Launches Advocacy All-Star Training – Get Your Nominee Registered

(July 28, 2023) – We know, at the Kansas Hospital Association, it takes a lot of people to engage in the work of telling about the needs of your hospital and the patients you serve each and every day. In fact, telling the story of your hospital is everyone's work. That is why the KHA is so excited to be launching a new advocacy program, Advocacy All-Star Training!

This program is designed to get anyone ready to "step up to the plate" when it comes to advocating for the needs of your hospital. The three-part series will be in Topeka and have your staff prepared to engage with local, state and federal officials to effectively advocate for your hospital's needs.

The program is designed for anyone connected to your hospital who has a passion for advocating – clinical, non-clinical, veteran, new employee, trustee or administrative leader. They will hear, first-hand, about the advocacy process and learn from the best health care advocates in our state.

I invite your hospital to consider the major areas of advocacy you are focused on and select someone in that area for the inaugural program. Program participants will have a chance to get to know elected officials, partner organizations and participate in a mock bill hearing. They also will have a chance to put those learned skills to work during our KHA Annual Advocacy Day in January 2024. The number of attendees will be capped, so please register your team member early.

To help spread the word, please circulate the Advocacy All-Star All Flyer. Also, don't forget to complete and return the registration information for your nominee.

This new program is a great way to connect your passionate hospital advocates with the training they need to effectively discuss topics of importance to improve the health of Kansans and the health care systems across the state!
