Kansas Hospitals Awarded Apprenticeship Grant

Applause (March 10, 2023) – The Kansas Hospital Association congratulates Labette Health and Pratt Regional Medical Center for being awarded the Rural Healthcare Apprenticeship Grant from the Patterson Family Foundation via the Kansas Department of Commerce. This award of $100,000 enables these hospitals, the first hospital to do so in Kansas, to kick start health care apprenticeship programs.

Health care apprenticeships are a great way to build career pathways that can help increase the supply of workers in key occupations. Employers can use apprenticeships to upskill employees already employed in the hospital OR can be used to bring in members of the community who may be working in non-healthcare industries but would like to make the transition to serving in health care. Likewise, apprenticeships are valued by the employee apprentices by earning while they learn, which has shown employees can become more knowledgeable, more productive, and can minimize errors and accidents.

If your hospital is interested in learning more about health care apprenticeships and how your organization may be able to use this as a workforce initiative to meet your workforce needs, please contact Jaron Caffrey at (785) 233-7436.
