(April 3, 2026) – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment Substance Use Disorder and Overdose Prevention Section routinely monitors emergency department visit data to detect clusters of visits for suspected overdose. To sign up to receive alert reports when your area is experiencing an unusually high number of suspected overdose visits, fill out the
request form. More information can be found at
preventoverdoseks.org or in the
Overdose Emergency Department Visit Fact Sheet. Additionally, through the Kansas Health and Environment Laboratories, KDHE conducts toxicology testing on leftover specimens from patients presenting with nonfatal suspected overdose to an emergency department. For more information on how your hospital can participate, see the
Biosurveillance Flyer.
