CMS Provides Updates on Processing of Medicare Claims Impacted by Government Shutdown
(Nov. 26, 2025) – The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services provided additional guidance about the processing of claims impacted by the government shutdown. During the shutdown, CMS instructed the Medicare Administrative Contractors to process claims consistent with the Pricer software, fee and payment schedules that included reductions in payment due to the expiration of certain health care extender policies.
CMS now instructs the MACs to perform mass adjustments to any paid claims for the extender policies that were included in the recently enacted continuing resolution, including the enhanced low-volume payment adjustment and the Medicare-dependent hospital program.
CMS also previously instructed the MACs to return certain telehealth claims that were no longer payable because of lapsing statutory provisions. CMS now instructs providers to resubmit those claims.
