President's Perspective – Join Us in Celebrating National Hospital Week, May 10-16
(April 17, 2026) – National Hospital Week is right around the corner, May 10-17. The Kansas Hospital Association looks forward to celebrating with the American Hospital Association. This year's theme, Healing Happens Here, recognizes the amazing people who work in hospitals and health systems. We ask the public to join us in celebrating National Hospital Week by showing support for all health care workers.
KHA has created a Hospital Week Toolkit full of resources to help members promote National Hospital Week. We will continue to add more assets in the coming weeks. The American Hospital Association also has provided a number of new resources hospitals can use to celebrate National Hospital Week. Both KHA and AHA encourage the public to find unique ways to show support for their local hospital.
In addition, it is always refreshing to see and learn about the activities Kansas hospitals are undertaking with their teams during hospital week. We encourage hospitals to use the hashtags #HospitalWeek, #HealingHappensHere and #KansasHospitals in your social posts. KHA staff looks forward to seeing the photos and will highlight what Kansas hospitals and health systems are doing to celebrate health care workers and the innovative ways you are supporting and connecting with the communities you serve.
Did you know Hospital Week has been celebrated for more than 100 years? National Hospital Week began as National Hospital Day in 1921, to inspire community members to support hospitals after the 1918 Spanish flu outbreak. In 1953, National Hospital Day was renamed National Hospital Week. National Hospital Week falls during the week of Florence Nightingale's birthday, May 12. The holiday shines a spotlight on hospitals, health systems and health care workers who strive to save lives every day.
KHA, AHA and associations across the country are pleased to team up to recognize hospitals, health care systems, networks and others who provide care to their communities. We believe it is essential that others see the impact hospitals have had on communities. Have a great Hospital Week, and let our team know if you need any additional resources!
