ACIP Makes Vaccine Recommendations During Sept. 18-19 Meeting

(Oct. 3, 2025) – ACIP Makes Vaccine Recommendations during September 18-19 Meeting
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices met Sept. 18 and 19. Recommendations from ACIP after this meeting include the following, listed by vaccine:
COVID-19 Vaccine
- For adults 65 years and older: Vaccination based on individual-based decision-making, also known as shared clinical decision-making
 - For individuals aged six months to 64 years: Vaccination based on individual-based decision-making — with an emphasis that the risk-benefit of vaccination is most favorable for individuals who are at an increased risk for severe COVID-19 disease
 - The COVID-19 vaccine will continue to be available without a prescription

MMRV Vaccine (combination measles, mumps, rubella and varicella vaccine)
- The committee voted to change a recommendation on the combined measles, mumps, rubella and varicella
 - The MMR and varicella vaccines should be administered separately to children under the age of four years, rather than in a combined vaccine
 - The ACIP's recommendations go to the CDC for review. Recommendations become official CDC policy once adopted by the CDC director
