Kansas State Board of Nursing Approves Statement of Support for LPN Apprenticeships

KSBN logo (March 24, 2023) – This week, Kansas Hospital Association staff presented to the Kansas State Board of Nursing on licensed practical nurse-registered apprenticeships and received a statement of support from the board. KHA has pursued the idea of using apprenticeships in hospitals as a workforce tool to increase the current workforce and allow employees to earn while they learn. It has been a goal to gain a "green light" from KSBN to ensure LPN apprenticeships can take place in Kansas. This approval from the board ensures hospitals interested in apprenticing staff to train them to an LPN can officially proceed.

KHA staff previously presented this idea to the KSBN's Task Force on Workforce in January. More than 25 states have established health care apprenticeship programs. Kansas has made significant progress the last several months to allow employers to begin taking advantage of registered apprenticeship to meet their employer needs.
