Updates from the Senate

Kansas Senate Chamber (April 4, 2023) – Today, in the Senate, the chamber saw motions to concur on the following bills that made their way through the House:

Senate Bill 132 provides for the buffalo soldier's distinctive license plate. The motion to concur passed on a vote of 40-0.

Senate Bill 180 establishes the Women's Bill of Rights to provide a meaning of biological sex for purposes of statutory construction. The motion to concur passed on a vote of 28-12.

Senate Bill 205 authorizes certain water rights in a water bank to participate in multi-year flex accounts on a temporary basis. The motion to concur passed on a vote of 40-0.

Senate Concurrent Resolution 1603 urges the president of the United States to restore energy independence in the United States. The motion to concur passed on a vote of 29-10.

Those will now go to the governor.

The Senate also debated and passed Substitute for House Bill 2058. The legislation authorizes any gaming compact regarding sports wagering to include provisions governing sports wagering outside the boundaries of Indian lands and crediting tax revenue generated from wagers on historical horse races to the horse breeding development fund and the horse fair racing benefit fund. The bill was amended and passed on a vote of 29-10.
