(March 30, 2026) - The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services released new enrollment data for the 2026 Open Enrollment Period for the Health Insurance Exchange. Notably, a higher percentage of Kansas enrollees are now signed up for bronze plans, which typically have lower monthly premiums but higher deductibles and out-of-pocket costs. Additional highlights include:
- Kansas experienced a 9.6 percent drop in Marketplace plan enrollment, falling from 200,046 in 2025 to 192,811.
- Twenty-nine percent of Kansas enrollees are in a plan with a premium of less than $10 per month after advanced premium tax credits. This marks a notable decrease from 2025, when 47 percent of consumers were enrolled in a plan with premiums of $10 or less.
- The only federal poverty level segments that saw an increase in enrollees compared to last year are the 100-138 percent of FPL, 100-150 percent of FPL, and 300-400 percent of FPL brackets.
- Twenty-eight point five percent of current enrollees switched plans in 2026.
- A higher percentage of Kansas consumers chose bronze plans, while a lower percentage chose silver plans, declining from 56 percent during the 2025 OEP to 4 percent for the 2026 OEP.
