President's Perspective – KHSC Provides Services and Resources to Kansas Hospitals
(May 29, 2026) – The Kansas Hospital Association family includes several subsidiary organizations that serve Kansas hospitals in different ways. The Kansas Health Service Corporation's primary objective is to partner with organizations that provide quality products and services to Kansas health care institutions at reasonable prices.
KHSC is a wholly owned subsidiary of KHA that has helped Kansas hospitals since 1984. A secondary objective of KHSC is to support KHA in meeting its mission to serve hospitals. Managed by a separate board of directors, KHSC endorses 19 vendor partners. All of these vendors have undergone specific due diligence to ensure they provide services that help hospitals meet their operational needs.
KHSC continues to review the marketplace for vendors that support Kansas hospitals. At our May board meeting, we discussed services such as Early Wage Access, employee benefits and revenue cycle resources.
Over the years, a major focus for KHSC has been insurance. This is where KHSC has its roots, and it's still the primary area in which hospitals interact with KHSC. With the assistance of Conrade Insurance Group, KHSC has secured special terms with property and D&O carriers. KHSC also offers Workers' Compensation coverage through the KHA Workers' Compensation Fund. Finally, KHSC is working with OneDigital and Empower to bring a highly compliant, cost-effective retirement program to hospitals through the Hospital Association Retirement Program.
Created in 1991, the Fund is a self-funded group pool that provides affordable Workers' Compensation insurance to health care facilities. It is owned by its members, and profits are returned to them. Over the past ten years, $3.85 million has been returned to its members as dividends.
KHA benefits from KHSC's valued services, as KHSC profits are returned to the association, helping to keep member dues low. KHSC is a major sponsor of KHA and helps fund some of the association's strategic work. KHSC provides more than $300,000 annually in direct and indirect resources to KHA.
