Kansas Health Alert Network Notification on Infant Botulism Linked to Formula
(Nov. 21, 2025) – On Nov. 13, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment issued a K-HAN Notification to warn providers and the public about an investigation into a multistate outbreak of infant botulism linked to infant formula. As of Nov. 11, 15 infants have been reported with suspected or confirmed infant botulism cases due to exposure to Byheart Whole Nutrition infant formula across 12 states, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Infant botulism is a reportable disease. All suspected cases must be reported to KDHE within four hours of suspicion by calling the 24/7 KDHE Epidemiology Hotline at (877) 427-7317, option 5.
