Health Care Upskilling and Training Grant Program Now Open

KDHE (Oct. 10, 2025) – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has officially introduced  the Health Care Upskilling and Training Grant Program – a new funding opportunity aimed at helping Kansas health systems, hospitals and long-term care organizations enhance their workforce through specialized training and skill development.

This program is a direct result of collective successful advocacy efforts, following recommendations developed by the KHA Workforce Committee during the summer of 2024. The initiative was passed into law earlier this year and is now being implemented statewide.

The HCUT program provides competitive grants to support projects that:

  • Enhance staff capacity and strengthen the local workforce;
  • Expand local training and career advancement programs that promote employee retention and access to care; and
  • Assess the impact of upskilling programs.

Eligible applicants include Kansas hospitals, health systems and long-term care organizations. Award amounts are expected to range from $10,000 to $50,000, with a total program funding cap of $1 million. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis through May 22, 2026.
