The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued the following updates in the MLN Connects Provider eNews:

CDC's Project Firstline Offers Micro-learn Trainings for EVS Teams
Environmental services staff play a vital role in keeping health care environments clean and safe. Since EVS workers are the first line of defense against the spread of germs, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Project Firstline launched a new series of micro-learning infection-control resources that can be easily integrated into existing team meetings.

Project Firstline's "EVS Micro-Learns: Essentials for Infection Control" is a series of guided discussions on infection control that offer brief, on-the-job training for EVS workers in healthcare settings. Each micro-lesson explains how and why EVS practices help protect patients and save lives.

CMS Issues Administrative Simplification Final Rule
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services issued a final rule that "establishes the first-ever Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act adopted standards for health care claims attachments, enabling the secure electronic exchange of health care claims-related supporting clinical documentation such as medical records, X-rays and imaging, clinical notes, telemedicine visit documentation and laboratory results." CMS is estimating a cost savings of $781 million per year.
