Boards of Pharmacy and Healing Arts Issue Joint Statement Regarding Intravenous Therapy
(March 20, 2026) – The Kansas State Board of Pharmacy and the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts released a
joint statement addressing critical concerns about patient safety and regulatory compliance related to retail intravenous therapy clinics. The statement comes after both regulatory agencies having received an increase in complaints about the inappropriate provision of IV therapy at IV hydration clinics and medical spas. Complaints have alleged activities such as out-of-scope practice, delegation of medical treatments to unqualified individuals, unauthorized compounding and administration of prescription medications and other drugs and the unlicensed practice of the healing arts and pharmacy. The
Board of Pharmacy March 2026 Newsletter noted that the board will investigate and refer all complaints regarding IV or compounding practices to the appropriate regulatory agency. The Board of Pharmacy encourages consumers and licensees to
file a complaint at any time if they have a concern about the appropriate or lawful practice of pharmacy in Kansas by a licensee or registrant.
