(Oct. 30, 2026) – The Association of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses' Post-Birth Warning Signs Education course offers a standardized approach to postpartum pre- and post-discharge education for all patients, regardless of risk factors. Course participants learn about the United States maternal morbidity and mortality crisis, including definitions, causes and contributing factors. The course also provides strategies for educating patients and their families to recognize post-birth warning signs.
Learning Objectives:
- Analyze the negative consequences of racial, ethnic and geographic inequities and social determinants of health on maternal health outcomes and how they relate to maternal mortality in the United States.
- Discuss post-birth warning signs for potentially life-threatening complications using AWHONN's post-birth acronym and when to recognize signs of potential complications requiring immediate or prompt attention.
