The House Appropriations Committee Hears Report-Outs on Health Budgets

Budget 3 (Jan. 20, 2025) – Today, the House Appropriations Committee, chaired by Representative Troy Waymaster (R-Bunker Hill), heard report-outs bfrom sub-committee chairs on several health-related, fee-funded agencies, including the Emergency Medical Services Board, Kansas 911 Coordinating Council, Health Care Stabilization Fund Board of Governors, Kansas Board of Nursing and Kansas Board of Pharmacy.

There were no changes to the Emergency Medical Services Board, 911 Coordinating Council or the Kansas Board of Pharmacy.

The committee discussed ending balances of the Health Care Stabilization Fund and full-time employees and salary increases. The committee recommended the budget without amendment.

The committee made a motion to transfer $1 million from the Kansas Board of Nursing Fee Fund to a new fund that would be called the Nurse Fair Treatment and Recovery Fund for eligible claims against the state for non-clinical claims such as unprofessional conduct and consent agreements and to place a limit on fee increases for the board.

The committee will continue to meet throughout the week to hear other agency report-outs and bill hearings.
