(March 5, 2026) – Today, the Senate Select Committee on Veterans Affairs held hearings on three bills:
House Bill 2626 expands veterans' preference in government employment to include current members of the National Guard and eligible spouses. The bill was previously passed by the House 118-4.
House Bill 2627 expands permissive preference in private employment to include current service members and eligible spouses. The bill was previously passed by the House 111-11.
House Bill 2214 enacts the Safeguarding American Veteran Empowerment Act to limit compensation for assisting in veterans' benefits matters. The bill was previously passed by the House 81-43.
The committee is scheduled to meet again next week to work bills.
