Senate Judiciary Committee Works Bills Related to Political Subdivision Attorneys

Gavel (Feb. 16, 2026) – Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee worked bills, including the following:

Senate Bill 462 prohibits certain public nuisance claims, requires the attorney general to bring nuisance actions that are not wholly contained in one political subdivision, requires special injury for certain public nuisance actions and provides an accrual period for the statute of limitations in public nuisance actions. The committee amended to remove the requirement for the attorney general to get permission from the governor to bring a public nuisance claim.

Senate Bill 463 prohibits certain persons from recovering damages in certain civil actions and creates requirements for actions involving negligent security. The committee amended to provide definition of "wrongful conduct."

Both bills were recommended favorably as amended and will now go to the full Senate.
