Today, the House Select Committee on Government Oversight held a discussion to learn more about Federally Qualified Health Centers. The committee heard from Robert Styles with the Community Care Network of Kansas about the structure and services of an FQHC. The committee also heard from Bryant Anderson of the Prairie Star Health Center about a recent national article on debt collections. The committee referenced local court cases and encouraged the board to ensure that their thresholds of not sending those under $500 for collections were in line with the outstanding court cases.
The committee also asked questions about the differences between FQHCs and Certified Community Behavioral Health Centers. The committee expressed a desire to see results for the investments in health care and suggested they will have another meeting on April 8, the day before the veto session. The committee chair encouraged members to ask the speaker to set any topics they are interested in, since he will set the committee's priorities.
