House Passes Bill on Illegal Residents Access to Local Public Benefits
Immigration Law (Feb. 5, 2026) – Today, the House took up floor debate on Senate Bill 254, which prohibits aliens unlawfully present in the United States from receiving any state or local benefit in accordance with applicable law. The Chamber adopted an amendment that removed a section of the bill that would have prohibited immigrant children from accessing in-state tuition. The bill, as amended, passed on a vote of 86-36.
