(Feb. 9, 2026) – Today, the House Health and Human Services Committee held a hearing on the following bills:
House Bill 2562 permits the issuance of a special license plate or a permanent or temporary placard to a person with a disability, based on documentation of satisfactory proof of disability from a physical therapist. The committee heard from conferees Jennifer Caswell and Chris Deck of the American Physical Therapists Association. Neutral testimony was submitted by Susan Gile of the Kansas State Board of Healing Arts. The committee recommended the bill favorably for passage, and it will now go to the House floor.
House Bill 2587 authorizes a licensed private psychiatric hospital to maintain a stock of emergency medication kits for pharmaceutical emergencies. The committee heard proponent testimony from Erik Hatten of Corterra.
The committee also took action on House Bill 2364, which prohibits certain health insurers from requiring cost-sharing for non-opioid prescription drugs or from providing less favorable coverage for such drugs than for opioid or narcotic prescription drugs for the treatment of pain. The committee recommended the bill favorably for passage without amendment. The bill will now go to the House floor.
