House Commerce Committee Hears Nurse Educators Bill

Nurses in School (March 2, 2026) - Today, the House Commerce Committee held a hearing on Senate Bill 334, facilitating nursing workforce development by providing education levels for instructors at nursing schools as a requirement for state approval.

The committee heard from proponent Kylee Childs of LeadingAge Kansas. The Kansas Board of Nursing Executive Director, Carol Moreland, provided written neutral testimony. Opponent testimony was provided by Kelly Sommers, who suggested that there is no shortage of nurse educators and emphasizing corporate-owned long-term care concerns. 

The committee also heard from aviation industry representatives who were in the Capitol for Aviation Day in Kansas.

The committee will meet again throughout the week.
