House Commerce Committee Hears About Childcare

Daycare (Jan. 27, 2026) - Today, the House Commerce Committee heard from the United Methodist Health Ministry Fund on childcare in Kansas. Committee members heard from David Jordan,  who emphasized the importance of childcare to the overall economic sustainability of businesses in our state and noted that current tax credits don’t incentivize non-profit organizations, such as hospitals, to consider childcare. The committee heard that the United Methodist Health Ministry Fund has been working with Senate Majority Leader Chase Blasi (R-Wichita) and is modeling its approach on a Nebraska model to make this available to more businesses. Mr. Jordan also discussed the Child Assistance Support Program in Kansas and suggested that participation is low because of low provider participation, and possible ways to boost it through provider payments rather than recipient families.

The committee also held a hearing on House Bill 2464 extending the number of years that new credits may be issued or earned for contributions to graduates of aerospace and aviation-related education programs and employers of program graduates.
