(Jan. 8, 2026) – This year, the House Budget Committees began meeting ahead of the start of the legislative session in an effort to expedite the state budget process.
Today, the House Social Services Budget Committee met, chaired by Representative Dave Buehler (R-Lansing). The committee reviewed the following budgets; The Healthcare Stabilization Fund Board of Governors, Kansas Board of Pharmacy, Board of Nursing, Board of Mortuary Arts. On Friday, the committee will discuss the Office of the Child Advocate, The Kansas Guardianship Program, and the Kansas Office of Veterans Services.
Other House budget committees holding discussions this week include:
- House Higher Education Budget discussions on Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board, Kansas State Board of Healing Arts, Kansas State Historical Society, Kansas State Library, Fort Hays State University, Pittsburg State University, and Emporia State University.
- House Committee on General Government Budget held discussions on Pooled Money Investment Board, Kansas Dental Board, Kansas Board of Examiners in Fitting and Dispensing of Hearing Instruments, Kansas Board of Barbering, Board of Examiners in Optometry, Kansas Real Estate Commission, Kansas Board of Cosmetology, Kansas Public Disclosure Commission, Office of Administrative Hearings, Judicial Council, Kansas Human Rights Commission
- House Committee on Transportation and Public Safety Budget
- House Transportation and Public Safety Budget Committee
- House Agriculture and Natural Resources Budget
These committee hearings are anticipated to speed up the budget review process for a session that is anticipated to be very fast paced.
