(Feb. 9, 2026) – Today, the House Appropriations Committee worked through agency budgets. As the committee considered the Kansas Department of Children and Families' budget, it added proviso language stating that no expenditures may be made for the summer lunch program unless the waiver application for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program changes related to access to candy and soda is submitted to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
The committee will continue tomorrow, and discussions are slated to include the Kansas Department of Health and Environment's Division of Health.
