Naloxone Resources

Naloxone is a safe, rapid acting, emergency opioid antagonist used to prevent an opioid overdose and is available as both a prescription product and an over-the-counter product (4mg naloxone nasal spray). KHA partnered with the Kansas State Board of Pharmacy and Kansas Council of Health System Pharmacy to create resources to help our members understand the difference between the dispensing of prescription naloxone pursuant to the Kansas Board of Pharmacy naloxone dispensing guidelines; and separately, the distribution of over-the-counter naloxone, which is not subject to the statewide protocol guidance. Also included in the resources is a sample template for use when dispensing prescription naloxone in accordance with the statewide protocol.
