KHA Legislative Dinner - Nov. 4

We are excited to offer the membership the opportunity to discuss some of the challenges and opportunities at your hospitals with policymakers. This year, we are excited to host legislative dinners throughout the state featuring interactive conversations about hospital challenges.

KHA Board Meeting - Nov. 5

KHA has a 21-member board of directors. They meet at least five times a year. Each board member holds three-year terms, with a two-term limit. The board has a composition of members from all geographic areas of Kansas all sizes and types of member hospitals are represented. The board also includes two hospital trustees and two physician members. Other participants include the American Hospital Association delegate.

Sunflower Health Network Board Meeting - Nov. 6

The Sunflower Health Network is a not-for-profit organization that consists of 26 counties located primarily in North Central and North West Kansas. Sunflower Health Network's (SHN) specific purpose is to improve the population's health status. The 26 member hospitals, in conjunction with their medical staff, have developed a network that fosters cooperation and coordination. The priority has been to enhance the integration of health-related services among the SHN member communities.

Pioneer Health Network - KHA Workforce Roundtable - Nov. 6

The goal of this event is to evaluate the current health care workforce landscape and facilitate new conversations that build on progress and explore further opportunities for advancement.

Concealed Carry

The Kansas legislature passed a new law that will exempt governmental medical facilities and adult care homes from permitting concealed carry in their buildings for a period of four (4) years. To apply for an exemption under this legislation, a hospital or adult care home must submit a request to the Attorney General's office stating the reason it is requesting an exemption. This law becomes effective July 1, 2013.

The Kansas Hospital Association has been in touch with the Concealed Carry Unit at the Attorney General's office regarding the process required for hospitals to request a four-year concealed carry exemption and have been told the following information:

Governmental medical facilities wishing to not allow persons to carry concealed weapons in its buildings must submit an exemption request to the Kansas Attorney General’s office by July 1, 2013. If the exemption request is not sent by July 1, concealed carry must be permitted in the medical care facility. An exemption may be requested after July 1, but concealed carry must be permitted in the facility until the exemption request is sent to the AG’s office.

The Kansas Attorney General’s Office has provided the following information online:

New signage that facilities requesting the exemption must post to clearly let gun owners know that they cannot bring concealed weapons in the building.
