KHA Calendar
National Hospital Week - May 11-17
The Kansas Hospital Association looks forward to celebrating National Hospital Week next week, May 11-17. A toolkit of resources is available to assist members in their hospital week celebrations. The assets are online in the Hospital Week Toolkit folder. They include videos, social media posts, frames, a media release and more. AHA also resources hospitals can use.
Healthworks Board Meeting - May 22
KHA established a foundation for it's members in 1969 and redesigned it in 1998 as a 501(c)3 organization. Healthworks, previously the Kansas Hospital Education and Research Foundation, is funded through contributions, grants and educational fees.
KHSC Board Meeting - May 27
KHSC is a wholly owned subsidiary of KHA. Therefore, a secondary objective of KHSC is to support KHA in meeting its mission to serve hospitals. Its mission is to provide enhanced value to KHA members through evaluation and endorsement of selected vendors of services needed by the KHA membership. KHSC will be a valuable resource to Kansas health care facilities and KHA as they serve their constituents.
KHA Board Retreat - May 28-May 30
The Kansas Hospital Association has a 21-member board of directors. They meet at least five times a year. Each board member holds three-year terms, with a two-term limit. The board has a composition of members from all geographic areas of Kansas all sizes and types of member hospitals are represented. The board also includes two hospital trustees and two physician members. Other participants include American Hospital Association delegate.
KHIMA Educational Program - June 2-3
KHIMA is a component state association of the American Health Information Management Association.

Worker Protections Against Violence

Kansas law now provides additional protections for Kansas health care workers who can face threats in the course of their work caring for patients. Assault of a health care worker is now a Class A misdemeanor that carries a maximum sentence of one year’s jail time and a $2,500 fine. 

KHA created toolkit of resources. There is a series of eight posters to be used in your facilities to raise awareness about the increased penalties for acts of violence against health care workers. Instructions and links to posters for public and employee spaces are available to KHA members.

Additional resources in our member toolkit include a template media release on the new law, a health care crimes list including statutes and a document for planning for and reporting a crime.

Employee Free Choice Act

Employees must have freedom to participate in structuring their work environment, and any threat to those freedoms is unacceptable. The Employee Free Choice Act was introduced in the 111th Congress during the early weeks of 2009. On behalf of member hospitals, the Kansas Hospital Association is standing up for employees against strong-arm coercion and misinformation.
