AHA ensures the unique needs of its members are a national priority. Location, size, workforce, payment and access to capital challenge small or rural hospitals and the communities they serve. Collaborating with state and regional hospital associations and with advice from its member council, the Section tracks the issues, develops policies and identifies solutions to the most pressing problems.

This site provides basic information about being certified as a Medicare CAH provider and includes links to applicable laws, regulations, and compliance information. CAHs represent a separate provider type with their own Medicare Conditions of Participation (CoP) as well as a separate payment method. The CoPs for CAHs are listed in the “Code of Federal Regulations” at 42 CFR 485 subpart F.

KRHOP demonstrates the power of coordinated efforts by public and private sectors at the state, regional and local levels. Funding for the KRHOP initiatives is provided by the Medicare Rural Hospital Flexibility Program (FLEX) grant awarded to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment from the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy, Health Resources and Services Administration.

As part of HRSA, FORHP has department-wide responsibility for analyzing the possible effects of policy on the 61 million residents of rural communities and provides grant funding at the state and local levels to increase access to high quality health care.
