Advocacy

In communities across Kansas, the blue and white "H" sign dots the streets, promising to guide patients and families to a place that provides compassion, care and curing: the community hospital.

2008 State Advocacy Issues focus on a number of issues including: Medicaid, Transparency, Payments and Workforce.

2008 Federal Advocacy Issues focus on: Medicare and Medicaid, Health Care ReformRural Provisions and Limited Service Hospitals.

The mission of every community hospital in Kansas is to serve the health care needs of the people in their communities, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. This mission is made increasingly more difficult as hospitals face the additional challenges of: maintaining information technology standards; increasing the health care workforce; underfunded public programs, such as Medicare and Medicaid; improving hospital emergency readiness; publicly reporting hospital data; increasing access to care; and improving care for chronically ill patients.

How do we meet these challenges? We all must work together - public and private sectors, hospitals, other health care providers and the state and federal government. The Kansas Hospital Association will do its part by protecting the health care safety net, increasing affordability and improving care.

The focus of KHA’s 2008 state advocacy efforts is Medicaid, health care data transparency, limited service facilities, payment for health care services and maintaining an adequate health care workforce.

Advocacy is at the heart of every service KHA provides for its members. Our efforts are focused on one unchanging goal – ensuring our hospitals have the resources available to meet the health care needs of their communities.

Advocacy, both legislative and regulatory, is one of KHA's most important services to our membership.

Kansas hospitals focus their efforts on providing safe and quality care for their patients. Inconsistent interpretations of regulations by state regulators hinder hospitals striving to be compliant with regulations and requirements. KHA continues to play a vital role in keeping our members informed of new requirements.
