Local News Story Points Out Unexpected Costs of Air Ambulance Service

KHSC Newsletter (June 5, 2020) – The Lawrence Journal World shared a story this past weekend of a Kansas couple with a Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance plan that were surprised to receive a $49,000 bill from an air ambulance company for a short ride to a nearby hospital after a motorcycle accident.

Unfortunately, this can be a common occurrence. That is why the Kansas Health Service Corporation has collaborated with MASA Medical Transport Solutions to provide a product that will cover the out-of-pocket costs related to air and ground ambulance services. Since starting the program less than two years ago, more than 40 Kansas hospitals have signed up to offer MASA to their employees either as a cost-share, fully funded or employee-funded program.

If you would like more information, please reach out to Steve Poage with the Kansas Hospital Association/KHSC or David Dye with MASA at (913) 912-9008.
