ICD-10-CM Coding Guidelines for COVID-19

COVID19Newsletters (May 1, 2020) – Effective April 1, 2020, in response to the national emergency that was declared concerning the COVID-19 outbreak, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics implemented a new diagnosis code, U07.1, COVID-19, into the International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification.

Additionally, the National Uniform Billing Committee recommends use of the DR condition code, which identifies claims that are or could be affected by policies related to the national emergency. AHIMA and the American Hospital Association recently published an FAQ document related to COVID-19 as well. These and other resources are available from the KHA website.
