(July 7, 2023) – The Kansas Hospital Association's Health Care Worker of the Year Award highlights hospital employees who have made a significant contribution to the betterment of their hospital. These individuals are nominated for this award because they routinely go above and beyond the call of duty.
It didn't take long for Kiowa District Healthcare to discover they had struck gold with new employee Brandy Campbell. Hired in 2018 as the quality director, Campbell jumped in right away and shared her vast amount of medical knowledge, nursing technology skills and compassion for patients.
Her roles and responsibilities within KDH quickly grew, and she became an integral part of the nursing administration team. Within six months, she redeveloped the KDH Quality Assurance Improvement Program and restructured the health care documentation/policy process.
Next, Campbell expressed interest in assisting with changing the culture and improving the nursing administration leadership at the KDH long-term care facility. Since that time, a facility improvement plan was implemented with patient care, compliance and excellence in quality at the forefront. As a result, the long-term care facility received a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Campbell is an incredible mentor to lesser experienced nurses and certified nursing aides. Her leadership is valued throughout KDH. Her compassion, empathy and respect for the KDH patients, visitors and staff is evident at all levels within the system. Campbell leads the Quality Assurance Improvement Program and Provider Family Engagement Committee. Her leadership-focused initiatives have not only improved the health care environment but also advanced the KDH culture to a positive team of cooperation.
Campbell will be recognized, along with other Health Care Worker of the Year nominees, during the KHA Awards Luncheon at the 2023 KHA Annual Convention, Thursday, Sept. 7, at the Hyatt Regency Wichita/Century II Convention Center in Wichita.
