(Aug. 14, 2020) – The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has released guidelines on their much-anticipated pilot program for new Medicare payment models for rural health care providers. The CHART model will test whether upfront investments, predictable capitated payments and operational/regulatory flexibilities will enable rural providers to improve access to care and reduce cost.
The model calls for a Lead Organization. They will select 15 Lead Organizations to participate in this test. Each Lead Organization will work with a community (could be one county or several counties) on a plan to transform the delivery of health care. It also is expected that the state Medicaid agency will be a partner in the project.
We need to learn more before we can tell if this will be our opportunity to test the Primary Health Center concept. KHA staff will be participating in a webinar on Tuesday and are hopeful that additional information will be provided at that time.
We will keep you in the loop as things develop. Feel free to reach out if you have questions.
