(Aug. 11, 2023) – The Kansas Hospital Association's Health Care Worker of the Year Award highlights hospital employees who have made a significant contribution to the betterment of their hospital. These individuals are nominated for this award because they routinely go above and beyond the call of duty.
Amber Parkison is never afraid to jump into a challenging situation. As nurse manager for Kansas Rehabilitation Hospital, Parkison leads from the front, providing mentorship and guidance to the nursing team. She consistently asks how she can help make a person's day better and only asks staff to do something if she is prepared to help. She has developed credibility that helps coach and support the various nursing team members.
Parkison looks for ways to enhance the staff and patient experience. She is frequently recognized by members of the medical staff for her ability to "get things accomplished" and is equally respected by pharmacists, therapists, case managers and ancillary staff within the hospital. She is very communicative in a way that is transparent and productive, while also teaching others the importance of teamwork and keeping the patients at the center of conversations.
Parkison was chosen as the hospital's Employee of the Year for 2022. These awards are peer-nominated and selected by the hospital's senior leadership team. Twice in the last 18 months, the hospital has experienced a vacancy in the chief nursing officer role, and both times Parkison stepped up to the plate and assumed additional responsibilities as interim CNO.
Parkison will be recognized, along with other Health Care Worker of the Year nominees, during the KHA Awards Luncheon at the 2023 KHA Annual Convention, Thursday, Sept. 7, at the Hyatt Regency Wichita/Century II Convention Center in Wichita.
