Update Regarding Nursing License Expiration Dates
KSBN logo (Oct. 2, 2020) – Subsequent to the State of Kansas COVID-19 Disaster Emergency Proclamation extension to Oct. 15, 2020, Governor Laura Kelly signed Executive Order (EO) No. 20-64 extending the renewal deadline for professional licenses during this State of Disaster Emergency. Based on EO 20-64, the Kansas Board of Nursing has provided updated guidance on nursing license expiration dates. The KSBN guidance states that EO 20-64 applies to nursing licenses that were in good standing as of March 12, 2020, and that have expired or will expire during the State of Disaster Emergency, which is currently set to expire on Oct. 15, 2020. This means the deadline to renew licenses that would otherwise expire during the State of Disaster Emergency is Oct. 15, 2020. Mandatory continuing nursing education must be completed before renewal. Per KSBN, these licenses will be lapsed if not renewed by Oct.16, 2020. Nursing licenses with an expiration date of Oct. 31, 2020, are not affected by this EO and must be renewed by Oct. 31, 2020. They will be considered lapsed, if not renewed by Nov. 1, 2020.
