Sales Tax on Food Bill Makes Legislative Progress
ProviderTax (April 28, 2022) – Yesterday, the Kansas Senate passed unanimously a bill that would reduce the sales tax on unprepared foods from the current 6.5 percent to 4 percent by Jan. 1, 2023. The rate would be further dropped in 2024 to just 2 percent, and ultimately be zero by 2025. The legislation contained in House Bill 2106 passed the Senate on a vote of 39-0. It will now go to the House for a vote.
