(Sept. 16, 2021) – The Legislative Coordinating Council, which consists of legislative leadership, met yesterday to discuss the following items:
- Legislative technology requests for proposals
- Office changes inside the capitol building
- Additional interim committee dates
- Other outstanding legislative items
The committee also reviewed and discussed the recent federal announcements regarding vaccines and testing for private businesses, as well as Medicaid and Medicare health care facilities. Committee members highlighted the letter sent by several Kansas legislators to the Biden Administration expressing concerns with the federal approach. Members of the committee indicated they also are working with the Kansas delegation on the matter and discussed the possibility of state legislative exemptions while highlighting the potentially high costs to the state of Kansas.
During the discussion, committee members raised concerns about staffing challenges in hospitals and long-term care facilities and emphasized the need for healthy frontline workers in hospitals across Kansas.
The LCC will receive updates from Legislative Research and Revisor's Office staff about actions other states may be considering and what can be done in Kansas to opt-out of certain provisions at future meetings.
