House and Senate Agree to Rural Hospital Legislation Sponsored by KHA
RuralHealth (April 8, 2021) – Today, the House and Senate Conference Committee Conferees agreed to insert the Kansas Hospital Association-sponsored legislation to establish a rural emergency hospital designation. The language, as it was amended in the Senate (Senate Bill 175), was inserted into House Bill 2208. The language also will include a new Rural Hospital Grant Program. The newly agreed-upon language will be similar to House Bill 2174. It will add language to assure a hospital has to exhaust other resources before applying for a Rural Hospital Grant and requires the director of the state budget to attempt to take any portion possible of the $10 million transfer from COVID relief funds before making the transfer from the State General Fund. The bill now goes before the House and Senate.
